Pet Cologne is one of the popular product use nowadays by many pet owner. These Pet Cologne fun fragrances can compare identically to the human department store versions with one exception – they are made for pets! It keeps your pet smelling fresh and clean with style. These gentle, conditioning fragrances are formulated to blend with your pet’s natural oils.
The increasing number of pet grooming centers and pet spas indicates that pets are also being pampered, especially dogs. In fact, in an article published by the US Entrepreneur, pets ranked as the No.10 1/2 trend to watch for in 2010.
Based on the 2002 statistics of the Bureau of Animal Industry, the population of dogs and cats in the country is estimated at 5 million and 5.5 million, respectively, and this figure has been steadily rising, an indicator that the market for pet grooming products is quite substantial. Typically, grooming products available in the market for pets are anti-flea shampoos, conditioners, and soaps. This project, on the other hand, will show how to make cologne for pets.
P1,000 is enough capital to buy the initial inventory of pet cologne: 125ml perfume oil (P545.64), 1L ethyl alcohol (P179.20), 1.5L distilled water (P35), a bottle of water-based food color, and 5 pcs 250ml bottle with sprayer (P22.40 each). Out of this, you can produce five 250ml bottles of pet cologne.
The basic formula for producing pet cologne is 3% perfume oil, 72% ethyl alcohol, 25% distilled water. So whether you’ll be producing just a bottle or hundreds of bottles of pet cologne, this formula may be used.
How to make Pet Cologne
Materials:
- 7.5 ml. Perfume oil
- 180 ml. Ethyl alcohol
- 62.5 ml. Distilled Water
- 2 to 3 drops Water-based food color
Procedure:
- After measuring the materials needed, mix the perfume oil with ethyl alcohol in a beaker or straight in its packaging bottle. Cleanse the container you used for the perfume oil with the remaining ethyl alcohol so that none of the perfume is wasted.
- Add the distilled water into the mixture and shake the bottle to mix up everything.
- Color your perfume using diluted water-based food color. Depending on how diluted your food color is, about 2 to 3 drops must be sufficient to give the cologne a good color. Shake well.
- Pour the cologne in the packaging bottle. But if you used the bottle to mix the materials, just put on the cap or sprayer. Then, put a personalized label on it. Your pet cologne is ready for selling.
Note:
- Food color is used instead of chemical colorants to make sure that there’s no harmful ingredient to pets.
- For the costing, compute the cost per ml of the materials you used then add the cost of the packaging materials, which includes the bottle, label and box or wrapper. In this project the production cost is P100.03 excluding the label, so you may put a 100 percent mark-up or higher. Some pet colognes are priced at P220 per 100ml. You may sell yours with the same price point or sell it at a lower price.
